Standerton. Standerton lies on the banks of the Vaal River and was established in 1876 on Adriaan Stander's farm "Grootverlangen". The town lies some 1 531 m above sea level and the highest point in the area is the 1 640-m-high Stander's Kop that saw much action during the First Anglo-Boer War in 1881.

Standerton is a large commercial and agricultural town lying on the banks of the Vaal River in Mpumalanga, South Africa, which specialises in cattle, dairy, maize and poultry farming. The town was established in 1876 and named after Boer leader Commandant A. H. Stander.During the First Boer War a British garrison in the town was besieged by the Boers for three months.

The demerger of Anglo American's South African thermal coal assets will be completed on 7 June. The new company, Thungela, will trade on the stock market in Johannesburg and London.
